A message from the Archbishop
Welcome to the AMS Family Faith Assessment!
In the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of love), Pope Francis invites the faithful to envision the family as a fertile “opportunity” for making disciples and evangelists (no 7). It is a joy to propose this digital tool to support parents’ role as the primary catechist to their children. Faith is nurtured in the “domestic church” where parents and children pray together, discuss questions and answers, and follow the way of Jesus in their daily lives. Take a moment to sit with each of your children to do the Family Assessment between 1 September and 31 October. Explore the Family Play games with your children to grow in the knowledge and understanding of the faith together.
This assessment process is based upon the standards and indicators in the Archdiocesan Religion Curriculum Guide called Forming Disciples for the New Evangelization that is expected to be used with each military Catholic faith community religious education program. I encourage you to make the time to challenge one another with the assessment first and then proceed to the bonus quizzes seeking answers together. These will naturally lead to new questions as family members listen more attentively to weekly homilies, notice the changes of the liturgical seasons, and through prayer become more intimately connected with Jesus Christ.
May this assessment combined with daily prayer and reflection with the Scriptures, enhance your family’s participation in the Sunday Eucharistic celebration.
Invoking the abundant blessing of Almighty God upon your family, I remain
Sincerely in Christ,
(The Most Reverend) Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D
Archbishop for the Military Services, USA
